The Sunnah is the way of the Prophet (s.a.w) and it is an excellent model for the mankind provided by the Creator Himself, Almighty Allah has revealed in the Holy Qur’an:

لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِيْ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ

You have indeed in the life of Messenger of Allah an excellent model of life for you

(Al Qur’an: 33:21)

The Prophet (s.a.w) had lived a model for everyone and shared the wisdom of perfect life with the companions. The Prophet (s.a.w) had also been approached by his companions frequently with regard to their health problems, at a time when there was no trace of medicine as a science, instead, virtuous people and religious leaders. Belief in God leads to the fact that God is the Curer of diseases, which stands even today, when the doctors and surgeons fail, they direct the patients to God alone! The Holy Qur’an declares this fact in the following verses and whoever recites these verses and prays for the sick, Allah gives them remedy and cure.

Since the time of the development of Prophetic Medicine by Muslims, which was in fact, taking leads and guidance from the Prophet’s (s.a.w) suggestion of remedies and the scientific studies undertaken by the Muslim philosophers and physicians down the fourteen centuries, it has been a part of the lifestyle of Muslims, following the Sunnah of the Prophet (s.a.w) in letter and spirit. The Prophetic Medicine will work miraculously only with those whose lifestyle is the Sunnah and belief, In fact, belief in any system is part of the cure!

Islam suggests eating habits for the believers (Muslims), specifying those things which are permissible (Halal) and those which are forbidden (Haram). The Holy Qur’an questions:

قُلْ مَنْ حَرَّمَ زِيْنَةَ اللهِ الَّتِيْ أَخْرَجَ لٍِعِبَادِهِ وَالطَّيِّبَاتِ مِنَ الرِّزْقِ

According to the Sunnah, the Prophet (s.a.w) has suggested that one should eat one third of his stomach, one third of water and leave a space equal to one third empty.

It is also the way of Sunnah that one should never eat unless and until he feels extremely hungry and should stop eating even when some of his desire to eat more remained. (It is also a Sunnath of eating food that he should drink water just before eating and should never drink water after eating for at least half an hour or more)
